AstroSpider engages independent contractors for data engineering, architecture, analytics, and AI project work. If you've got the skills and want to build real things at enterprise scale — we'd like to hear from you.
AstroSpider is a small shop and works like one. Worth knowing before you send anything in — some of this suits people well and some people would rather work somewhere else, and both are useful to find out early.
Documents, decisions, standards, and plans live in version control where they can be reviewed, traced, and reused — not scattered across inboxes and shared drives. That holds for everyone AstroSpider works with, not only the engineers. If your discipline is one where Git has traditionally been uncommon, prior experience with it is not a prerequisite; we will teach the process. We would rather work with someone who wants to learn it than someone who already knows every tool.
Low ego, low politics, direct communication. Disagreement about the work is expected and welcome; leadership is not exempt from it. Bruce holds himself to the same accountability as everyone else, including saying so publicly when he got a call wrong. Fear is not a management strategy that works over any useful length of time — a team that cannot say "I think this is wrong" will ship the wrong thing on schedule.
AstroSpider supports neurodiversity and genuinely values people who approach problems differently. Conventional thinking is not assumed to be better simply because it is conventional — different mental models, unconventional approaches, and alternative ways of organizing information are where a lot of real progress comes from. The bar stays the same for everyone: the work should create value, solve problems, improve systems, or help people grow.
AstroSpider does not treat people as interchangeable units of labor, and does not expect you to treat it as an interchangeable source of work. We look for mutual respect, intellectual curiosity, and trust, and we are willing to say no when that is not there. So should you. A conversation that ends in "not the right fit" is a good outcome, not a failed one.
We value people who take ownership, care about the craft, and work well in the kind of environments where the architecture actually matters. No obligation — just an expression of interest.
